Azulejo panels that tell stories
One of the viewpoint’s most distinctive features is its azulejo panels, decorating the walls of the terrace. These traditional tiles depict historical scenes and everyday life in old Lisbon, offering visual context to the city spread out below.
The panel on the left gives us an idea of what the Praça do Comércio (Commerce Square) was like before the 1755 earthquake. Although it was made in the 20th century, it is a partial replica of a panel in the Tile Museum. The panel on the right represents the conquest of Lisbon from the Moors in 1147.
